Tesla Q1 Earnings Call
A light went off in my head when Elon made this analogy during the Earnings Call. How many of the mobile phone manufacturers that made mobile phones are still around after Steve Jobs presented the smart iPhone…. none. Who would even want a phone today that isn’t a smart phone……few to no one.
Then Elon asked who will even want a car that is not a “Smart”car with FSD (full self driving) after they drive the latest version 12.4 and begin understand how rapidly it has evolved with AI. “Smart “ cars will be equivalent to the Apple iPhone in market disruption. Within a decade cars that are not “Smart” will be viewed as rotary phones.*
I bought Apple in 1992 and held and added to it for 30 years. Tesla is not a stock to trade…..it is a stock buy and hold. Just my opinion.
*The advantages of full self-driving cars are quite numerous, making them the future of transportation. One of the key benefits is safety. According to a tweet by @alandail, driving with Full Self-Driving (beta) and Full Self-Driving (supervised) is significantly safer than driving without it. This is a huge step forward in reducing accidents and fatalities on the road. Imagine a world where human error is almost entirely removed from the equation, making every journey safer for everyone involved.
Another advantage is the potential for increased efficiency and reduced emissions. With autonomous vehicles, there's less need for traffic control systems, and vehicles can be programmed to drive in a way that minimizes fuel consumption and emissions. A University of Michigan study concluded that self-driving vehicles could lead to a reduction in lifetime energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions of up to 9% compared to conventional vehicles.
Full self-driving cars also offer convenience and freedom, especially for those who cannot drive due to age or disabilities. They provide a new level of mobility, allowing people to get to work, errands, or medical appointments without the need for conventional methods of public transportation.
Moreover, the technology could save people time and reduce the time their cars are on the roads, decreasing congestion and emissions. It's estimated that full self-driving cars could eliminate the waves of traffic created by stop-and-go behavior, which would not only save time but also decrease emissions.
Lastly, there's the economic advantage. The consumer appetite for leaving the driving to technology is growing, and this could lead to a significant boost in the automotive industry. The vehicles are likely to reach Level 3 functionality relatively soon, which opens up a whole new market for autonomous driving solutions.
So, in a nutshell, full self-driving cars promise safer roads, reduced emissions, increased efficiency, and a whole new level of convenience and freedom for everyone. It's a future worth looking forward to!
I can’t believe you guys got sucked into all the media and blog distortions of fact.
FACTS
Electric cars have much less tendency to cause fires than their gasoline-powered counterparts. That’s according to a recent study by AutoInsuranceEZ, which compiled data from several government agencies. Out of 100,000 vehicles, 1,530 thermals caught fire, against 25 for the electric.
Tesla's electric vehicles not only achieved a 5-star rating in every category of NHTSA's crash tests but Model 3, Model S and Model X are the top three cars with the lowest probability of injury to occupants that NHTSA has ever tested.
